Laptop program
In 2011 Dominic College launched an Individual Student Laptop Program with our Year 5 students. We moved to the implementation of this exciting development after two years of research, planning and careful consideration of the needs of our students and best practice in teaching and learning.
Our Year 5 students have taken these laptops with them into Year 6 in 2012, and the laptop program will continue to be introduced to our new Year 5 students. Simultaneously, in 2012, all Year 7 students (our own students and those coming new to the College), have been issued with new laptops.
By 2015, all students from Years 5-10 will be using individual laptops. At the end of Year 10, the students will be given the laptop to take with them as their own property upon leaving Dominic College. A mandatory Technology Contribution Fee is required from parents as their child enters the program.
The laptop program is already showing promising results. It has sped up the teaching process and allowed us to differentiate in the learning process as not everyone needs to work on the one task at the same time or at the same rate. Having laptops has also increased the interest of students in their subjects and their learning now extends seamlessly from school to home.
The whole school uses a robust and comprehensive wireless broadband. Currently all students from Kindergarten to Year 10 have access to portable banks of laptops which complement interactive whiteboards in the classroom which has also been a great success at improving learning.
