Kitean's Pink Stumps Day

Kitean Aitken (Year 6 Vice Captain) plays for the Lindisfarne Junior Cricket Club (Under 13) and they made their competition’s Grand Final, played on Sunday 5 March at Lindisfarne.

The Sunday prior, Kitean explained he wanted to have a Pink Stumps game to fundraise some money for Cancer support. His main motivation was to show his support of our Principal, Ms Gilligan, although he is aware the money fundraised was shared across all Cancer charities.

Within a week the family had contacted the McGrath foundation and they expressed-posted the pink equipment. Approval was also been gained quick smart, by Cricket Tasmania and the Cricket Club.

This amazing young man was Front Cover of The Mercury on Saturday 4 March.

In the end, they raised $1,777. There was a massive crowd and Kitean’s experience shows what anyone can do with some determination and family support.

They even got a visit from the Nan of Australian and Tasmanian wicketkeeper, Tim Paine, who made a special trip down to donate and write a card to Kitean thanking him for being such an amazing young man.

Unfortunately, Kitean’s Lindisfarne team lost the very close decider by 12 runs, but Kitean and the Lindisfarne players should be proud of the event they staged and the contribution they have made. They are certainly winners in all our eyes.
