The Calling - part of Year 9's Rite Journey program

On Thursday 23 February Year 9 students attended “The Calling”, as part of their EMPOWER program, The Rite Journey.

The Rite Journey is a unique educational program designed to support the development and transition of our students from children into self-aware, vital, responsible, respectful and resilient adults. In Year 9 the program usually addresses issues with boys and girls in separate groups and brings these groups together at other times for interaction.

Students spent the evening at Dominic College camped in different areas and participated in some challenges and reflective exercises as well as guided workshops. They shared a meal together and enjoyed some fun games.

Students and teachers arose at pre-dawn and travelled by bus to either the top of the mountain (boys) or Cornelian Bay (girls).

They watched the sun rising, giving silent thanks and gratitude to everyone who has helped them in their journey in life.

The boys threw a rock off the top of the mountain and the girls released orange floats, mentally and symbolically letting go of something they felt was holding them back.

After a quick breakfast students had their first group challenge, walking back to school. The Calling was a powerful and memorable experience for all involved.
