Year 6 at Government House

Morning tea with Her Excellency

The bus came to a gentle stop early Wednesday morning as we waited for the large double gates to swing open admitting Year 6 to the grounds of Government House.

As we drove up the long tree lined drive there were gasps of astonishment as the beautiful sandstone building came into view. After a short stroll around the beautifully manicured grounds the group was ready to meet and have morning tea with the Governor, Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner, AM.

After we were all welcomed and personally introduced to Her Excellency we had the opportunity to hear her speak about her role as State Governor and ask some questions.

This was followed by a delicious morning tea and a wonderful tour of the house. Highlights of the tour included the ball room, drawing room and large dining room. Everyone was fascinated with the chandeliers and the incredible artwork on the ceiling in each room.

Students commented about how amazing they felt to be in a place where lots of important people, including the Queen had stayed.
