News: Music Night 2008

Why was this year’s music night such a success?

Where to start? The smooth sounds of the Senior Soul Combo, with Tyler Zmendak singing with all the arrogance and swagger of Otis Redding himself. The sweet harmonies of both Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs. The Senior Stage Band bringing to life the spirit of Motown and the Beatles. The original songs of Ellen Bennett and Merinda Sainty, Vincenza Ottavi and Imogen Pryer. The classical stylings of Benjamin Webster and Michael Langshaw. The sheer energy and intensity of the numerous rock bands. The brooding power of Phantom of the Opera. Nathan Waplington (enough said). The sheer oomph of the combined choirs being backed by not one but TWO drum kits.

And then… the RoflCopter. I doubt anyone has heard screaming of that level anywhere outside videos of the Beatles early live performances (unless you were lucky enough to be there). Ably led by James Ford and Aaron Cranfield, the RoflCopter seems set to be the new dance sensation. The RoflCopter has landed!

But overall, the sheer dedication of all the students was what made this year’s Music Night such a success. Special thanks go to Mr. Michael Woolford, MC; Mr. Matthew Taylor, Neil MacLeod, Aaron Cranfield, Tavis Pinnington and Jake Henderson, Sound Crew; and Neil MacLeod and Aaron Cranfield for the psychedelic light-show that had to be seen to be believed. This was a night that will go down in history.
