Southern and State Knock-Out Cup.

On Tuesday 21st of October and Tuesday 28th October, Dominic entered teams into the Schools Athletics Knock-Out Cup. This competition puts students into teams dependant on their age, and unlike the weekend carnivals, it involves students from both Public and Private schools.

At the southern carnival, Dominic entered 3 teams. Our senior boys, tried admirably, but as they were running against year 11 and 12 students, they didn’t manage to make the state final.

The Junior girls were very impressive, led by Felicia Robson. They finished 5th overall, one space away from making the State Final. This was an exceptional effort, considering that there were 17 teams in the girls division.

The Junior boys performed extremely well in both the Southern and State Knock-Outs, they managed to finish 4th overall in the Southern competition and then really turned it on in the State Final, where they finished 5th overall in the state. These boys represented their school with pride on their road trip to Launceston and again some outstanding results were achieved.

The junior boys team that travelled to Launceston consisted of Jayden Hey, Levi Hunt, Luke Percey, Tom Gregson, Jack Hansson, Jack Mason, Tom Doyle, Jack Gregson and Andrew Barron. Thanks must also go to Michael Langshaw who travelled with the team and showed great support.

State SATIS Athletics Carnival

On Saturday 18th October, around 50 students left Dominic College just before 6am, to travel the long road to St Leonard’s Athletics Centre Launceston. This carnival was the state version of the previous weekends carnival held at the Domain Athletics Centre.

Again, Dominic students performed extremely well, with outstanding individual performances listed below. Dominic Pride and Spirit was strong again this carnival, with students filling in for races and attempting events they have never tried before, just to ensure that Dominic received some points.

The athletics captains were again sensational, with Michael Langshaw and Samantha Harvey leading the team by example. Thank you to the fantastic helpers that I had on the day, David Reinbach, Bec Ginn, Pat Meaney, Allan and Stacey Pryer, and the great man himself Jackie Allsop.

SSATIS Athletics Carnival

On Saturday 11th October, the Dominic College Athletics Team spent the day at the Domain Athletics Centre, participating in the SSATIS Carnival. The weather was beautiful and many students and staff attended the carnival to show their support for the students.

Thanks must go to the staff that assisted with events, they did an outstanding job and without their help, the carnival wouldn’t have run as smoothly. These people were Aimee Woodward, Esther Hoggart, Cathy Sullivan, David Reinbach, Alan Pryer, Pat Meaney, Rohan Robertson and Alli Robertson.

This year we had a number of outstanding individual performances, and these are illustrated below. These students are exceptional athletes and have worked extremely hard for these results.

The other fantastic performances on the weekend came from the students who competed in event after event. Some students filled in for events, knowing they would probably not be close to winning and others just ran, jumped and threw event after event. These students demonstrated heart and school spirit that could not be measured by the time they ran or the points they received.

Finally, another thank you needs to go to this year’s athletics captains and leaders. Their dedication and care for Dominic made organising the team so easy and they need to be re-thanked for their efforts.

Captains: Michael Langshaw and Samantha Harvey.

Leadership Group: Phillip McConnon, Thomas Curtain, Chris Dillon, Jessica Harris, Imogen Pryer and Nadia Atkinson.

Breakfast for Champions

Savio has won both the Athletics (Term One) and the Cross Country this year. To thank everyone for their efforts, Savio House was rewarded with a hot breakfast on Friday 29 July. The menu was bacon, eggs, hash browns, toast and orange juice.

The Year 10 House Leaders, along with staff members, did a marvellous job in cooking and serving the food on time.

Burning down the House...Savio House

On Tuesday 26 July, Mr Carey's Year 8 Science Class, held in Savio 2, were asked to make fire using traditional methods. This involved no matches, no lighters and no flint.
Thankfully there were no flames, but many puffs of smoke which could have resulted in a successful activity if the student's stamina has lasted.
