Year 7 Girls Basketball

This term, Dominic fielded two Year 7 Basketball teams in the SSATIS roster, with both teams enjoying a successful season.

Dominic Maroon were unlucky not to make the final in one division, but the way in which they improved throughout the season will ensure they are very strong in the future. Dominic Gold started the season off with a few disruptions, but they worked hard and continually improved, picking up a few players throughout the season.

This team was extremely talented and worked very hard, finishing the season on top of the ladder and hosting a home final against Mt. Carmel. The final was a very one-sided affair, with Dominic showing great sportspersonship to allow Mt. Carmel into the game. The final score was Dominic 38 – 17 Mt. Carmel. Amy Rainbird was the star of the game, passing the ball beautifully, as well as scoring 13 points, and Georgia Salter also contributed 10 points.

The team consisted of Sharni Barwick, Olivia Philpott, Natalie Hill, Amy Rainbird, Georgia Salter, Charlotte Bailey and Roxanne Siggins. Congratulations to the members of that team and a special thanks to Kim Rainbird and Janelle Salter for their hard work coaching this team throughout the season.

Year 8 Girls Basketball

The Year 8 girls are an extremely talented year group in the basketball competition. This year two basketball teams entered the SSATIS roster, with both teams finishing on top of the ladder. Dominic Black played their final at Dominic against St. Mary’s on Tuesday 21 April and were extremely strong from the start. They worked very well as a team, passing the ball skilfully and sharing the scoring around. The final score was Dominic 50 – 18 St. Marys, and again this score probably could have blown out further, but the girls showed great sportspersonship. Janelle Rattenbury and Shannen Strong were the main point scorers with 18 and 10 points respectively.

Congratulations to the students involved in this team, Megan Atkinson, Hannah Howard, Sophie Warner, Shannen Strong, Janelle Rattenbury, Molly Cubit, Morgan Rowbottom, Hayley Ford, Millie Burrill, Ashlee Harris, Emily Claridge and Kaitlin Rattenbury. A huge thank you needs to go to Wendy Burrill for the outstanding effort she did with this team throughout the season.Thank you to Ben Stearnes for his wonderful help umpiring on Tuesday night and to the wonderful girls who helped with running the scoreboard and bench.

That same night, Dominic Maroon played their Grand Final against Collegiate with class. This was meant to be their home game, however, due to the number of teams we had competing in grand finals that night, they had to make the trip out to Collegiate. They played the whole game as a team, lead superbly by the experience of Abbie Gregson and Kelsey Nichols. The wonderful teamwork displayed by these girls was evident in the scoring, as seven of the ten girls scored at least two points. The final score of the match was 30 to 19. The team of Laura Smith, Maddison Tomkinson, Danielle Garwood, Cassie Hansson, Chelsea Storr, Annalise Dicker, Jade Bailey, Shanyce Kitson, Abbie Gregson and Kelsey Nichols need to be congratulated for the spirit in which they competed. Thank you very much to Jack and Tom Gregson for umpiring and the many parents and family who came to show their support.

News: Year 10 girls soccer team undefeated for four years
Posted by: mtaylor on Thursday, May 21, 2009 - 11:01 AM
SportInfo

On Monday 27 April, the Year 10 girls soccer team travelled to The Friends School to play in the Grand Final. This team went through the regular season undefeated and actually have not lost a game since they started playing together in Year 7 – an amazing feat for any sporting team.

The game was extremely entertaining, with Dominic showing their supremacy from the start, gaining an early penalty which unfortunately just missed to the near post. This didn’t stop the Dominic onslaught and they kept firing shots into a bewildered Friends goal keeper. Laura Wiggins, in goals, made a few excellent saves in the first half, showing tenacity when attacking the loose ball. Laura Claridge was also exceptional in the first half, putting a stop to almost all of Friends attacking moves.

As somewhat expected, Emily Medhurst who had many very close attempts eventually broke the deadlock with a beautiful goal. This was followed up by a sensational run and goal from Erin Lee. With the scores at 2-0, Friends fought back with a fantastic goal off the post. Then an amazing corner kick from Erin Lee, which curled around went past the keeper and although a number of players were trying to get a boot on the ball, it spun past them all and went through. Dominic eventually won the final 3-1.

The team consisted of Erin Lee, Sattin Belbin, Laura Claridge, Hannah Mason, Laura Wiggins, Shannan Logan, Emily Medhurst, Samara Hall, Chloe Sargent, Ashley Hossack, Bree Clancy, & Lizzie Knight.

Thank you to their fantastic coach John Visentin who has continually supported and pushed the team further over the years. Also to Simon Natoli, who helped coach as well as umpired a number of their games. Finally thank you to all the wonderful parent and student supporters especially Mrs. Knight for running the sidelines.

Info: Primary Swimming Carnival
Posted by: mtaylor on Wednesday, April 08, 2009 - 10:34 AM
SportInfo

The Primary (Grades 3-6) Swimming Carnival was held at the Glenorchy Pool on Wednesday 4th March. We were blessed with above average weather conditions , which was very surprising as the initial forecast in the previous week was for snow! It was a wonderful atmosphere at the pool. All houses were in full cheer and the support for fellow house members was fantastic.

The day ran really smoothly with some outstanding individual and team performances. All students participated to the best of their abilities in a variety swimming races, novelty events and relays. Congratulations to all students!

The carnival would not have been such a success without the huge amount of support from parents, grandparents, carers and friends. I wish to thank all of those people who helped on the day. Your help is sincerely appreciated. THANKYOU!

Our House Captains and Grade 6’s showed exceptional leadership and organisational skills and need to be congratulated. Staff from the Glenorchy Pool commented on the excellent behaviour of all Dominic students – well done!

Throughout the day the points tally saw the houses change positions numerous times. There was not a stage throughout the day where any House thought that they had it won. The final results showed that with teamwork and belief every House has the opportunity to win, even if they haven’t won a shield for a long period of time. The final results were Savio in fourth on 338 points , Guzman in third on 353 points , Bosco in second on 358 points and Siena in first position (to the surprise of even some Siena members) with a score of 380 points.

News: Secondary Campus Swimming
Posted by: mtaylor on Monday, March 02, 2009 - 03:31 PM
SportInfo

On Tuesday, February 24th, the Secondary Campus held their House Swimming Carnival, it was a fantastic day, with participation very high and house spirit in full force. It was sensational to see that more events had to be entered into the program due to an increased number of students who wanted to participate in the various events.

A huge thank you needs to go to all staff and parents who worked tirelessly on the various jobs, and to the other parents who made the effort to support their children.

Although the day is about participation, there were a number of individual efforts that need to be mentioned. These students won a large majority; if not all the events they competed in on the day. Katie Dyke, Candice Brunning, Jayden Hey, Bradley Oates, Joshua Young, Lauri Walner, Rhea Cornerlius, Kelsey Nichols, Conor Flanagan, Ashley Dyke, Connor MacBeth, Georgia Salter & Kelsey Madden.

Although the above students were the students that were the most successful, the highlight of the day was the number of students who entered events, so that they could gain house points, even when at times, they didn‟t feel comfortable, or could barely finish the required distance. These students certainly did their houses and Dominic proud, with their spirit and heart.

Throughout the day, the points tally was extremely close. Savio and Guzman houses were fighting it out for the top spot, and Siena and Bosco houses were holding a mini final for third position. In an amazing turn of events, the final event, the combined relay would decide the carnival. It was a race to be remembered, with an exceptional lead given early to Savio house thanks to their year 7 and 8 swimmers. But from then on, Guzman house slowly picked away at that Savio lead, first with Bradley Oates, then Katie Dyke, before Jayden Hey (Guzman‟s House Captain), proved he was not only a runner and came from around 15 metres back to power home in a Thorpey-Like performance. Stealing the shield from Savio‟s grasp.

Amazingly, Guzman and Savio House shared the Boys Aggregate Shield and Savio House won the Girls Aggregate by 2 points. Therefore it would be expected that Savio house would win overall, but the final combined relay brought home the shield for Guzman.

Points were as follows:
Girls Aggregate Boys Aggregate Overall
Savio 265 Guzman 264 Guzman 543
Guzman263 Savio 264 Savio 541
Bosco 196 Siena 235 Siena 415
Siena 172 Bosco 182 Bosco 382

Finally, as usual, the lilo and noodle races were probably the highlight of the day for most. Improvisation was the key when riding the dragons, and students certainly showed many different tactics during these novelty events. We now look forward to the interschool carnivals in the coming weeks.

A reminder that college swimming squad training is held on Tuesday and Friday mornings 7am -8am and Wednesday afternoons 3.30pm - 4.30pm

News: Dominic students drafted to the big time
Posted by: mtaylor on Monday, December 08, 2008 - 03:33 PM
SportInfo

Dominic College, Glenorchy, has a rich tradition of producing quality AFL footballers and this continued on the weekend, with Liam Jones (Vice School Captain 2007) being drafted to the Western Bulldogs at pick 32 and Aaron Cornelius (Vice School Captain 2006) being drafted to the Brisbane Lions at pick 57. With only four Tasmanians drafted this year it is remarkable that two attended the same school.

Dominic College Sport Coordinator, Mr Aaron Davey, said that Dominic College has a strong tradition of success in sport, particularly with team sports. “The College has dominated the Southern SATIS team sports rosters this year winning many trophies. As well as producing individuals with great skill, we are developing lifelong skills of teamwork.”

Liam Jones is currently attending Scotch College in Melbourne on a scholarship after completing his Year 10 education at Dominic College. He has been struck down with a knee injury and only played 1 game this year, but performances in the draft camp and in last year’s under 16 championships ensured he was the first Tasmanian picked.

“I never really made any state teams until last year and then everything just sort of snowballed. So I’ve always had to work hard and I think if you have a hard work rate and try your best you’ll never have any regrets,” Jones said.

“Dominic College has been a great school for me academically and obviously in sport. It was always nice for a challenge and a really good lot of people come out of Dominic College,” Jones said during his recent visit to his old school.

Aaron Cornelius is attending Guilford Young College and has played a lot of senior football with both Tasmania in the VFL and with Glenorchy Football Club. Aaron was destined to be picked up since halfway through last year, when he consistently matched up with AFL listed players as a 17 year old.

“I followed Paul Williams, (who played for Sydney in the AFL) as a role model because he was an ex Dominic boy and Peter and Nathan Street too. Paul Williams came down to the school once after he won the grand final, so we got to see him, which was great,” Cornelius said.

“I had a fantastic time here… I think it’s a really great school,” Cornelius commented when reflecting on his time at Dominic College.

Liam and Aaron join Simon Wiggins (Carlton) who is the other Dominic College Old Scholar currently playing in the AFL since Peter Street was recently delisted by the Western Bulldogs.

Others who have attended the College and who have played AFL/VFL football include, Paul Williams, Ian Stewart, Paul Hudson, Anthony Lovell, James Manson, and Patrick Wiggins.

The College community congratulates Liam and Aaron and wishes them well for their AFL futures.

News: TERM 2 SPORTS
Posted by: mtaylor on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 - 11:28 AM
SportInfo

Dominic College had another extremely impressive term in College sports. Netball, Hockey, Waterpolo, Soccer and Volleyball teams were all very successful. Below are pictures of our premiership teams and brief articles regarding their seasons.

Premiership Teams were:

  • Year 7 Boys Soccer
  • Year 9 Boys Soccer
  • Year 7 Girls Netball
  • Year 9 Girls Netball
  • Year 8 Boys Volleyball

Runners-Up were:

  • Year 7 Girls Volleyball
  • Year 10 Boys Volleyball
  • Year 8 Girls Netball

VOLLEYBALL

This year, Dominic College had another extremely successful year in Volleyball. We entered four competitions and made the grand final in three, which was an outstanding effort. Volleyball has continually developed at Dominic over the last few years and this is due to the dedicated students playing the sport, who train once, sometimes twice a week. It is also due to Mr. Brennan’s support and commitment towards this sport. He continually gives up his free time to organise and run Volleyball training sessions, of which I know the students are extremely grateful.

We were also lucky this year to have the help of Rachel Kitson, who with Mr. Brennan ran a weekend training session and helped out with her expert knowledge throughout the season. I certainly hope that Mr. Brennan and Rachel continue their association with Dominic College Volleyball as it continues to grow as a popular sport amongst students.

This year, each team was successful, particularly in the way they improved throughout the year and in the way they represented our College. The Year 10 Boys again had a solid season, and played off in the grand final. They fought extremely hard against a very impressive New Town team in the final, but unfortunately were defeated.

The Year 9 Girls also had an excellent season, finishing 7th overall in a competition with a huge number of teams. These girls were outstanding examples for Dominic College and will be a huge threat to other teams if they stick together next year.

The Year 8 Boys went through the season undefeated and won their grand final in a great match. The boys showed impressive skills throughout the season and will continue to achieve these excellent results provided they continue to work hard as a team. The boys are pictured below with their medallions and trophy.

The Junior Girl’s competition had two teams from Dominic, a Year 8 and a Year 7 team. Both were very successful during the year, but unfortunately they finished 2nd and 3rd, which meant they would play-off in the first week of the finals. This resulted in a sensational game, with the Year 7 Girls defeating the Year 8 Girls in a very close encounter. Therefore the next week the Year 8 Girls played off for third position, in which they defeated St. Mary’s. The Year 7 team then played off against a strong Ogilvie team in the Grand Final. The girls played very well, but unfortunately were defeated. This was still an outstanding effort considering they were a Year 7 team in a 7/8 competition and I am sure they will go a step further next year.

SOCCER

Year 9 Boys Soccer Premiers

Congratulations to the Year 9 Boys Soccer Team, who won the SSATIS Soccer Premiership at the end of August. The Dominic boys finished on top of the ladder, which ensured a home final and they started off in fine form, opening the scoring midway through the 1st half, courtesy of Ryan Tan. Dominic led 1-0 for a majority of the match, also having many opportunities to further enhance their lead. In the final minutes of the game, Sacred Heart sneaked a goal home. Dominic fought hard in the final stages, but the game resulted in a 1-1 draw, with both teams sharing the premiership. Teamwork and spirit is what got this team to the final and made them so successful, they all worked hard and looked out for each other

Special thank you must go to Simon Natoli, who coached throughout the season and umpired the final. John Visentin, super coach who is now two premierships from two team this year, and to Aaron Morley, Maddi O’Brien and Tim Gibbons for running the lines.

Year 7 Boys Soccer Premiers

Congratulations to the Year 7 Boys Soccer team, who defeated St. Virgil’s 3-0 in the final game of the season. It capped off an excellent season from the boys who continually improved throughout the year. The boys finished the regular season in second position, but were too strong in the final, with all team members playing a part. Goals were scored by Taylor Johnston (2) and Edward Medhurst.

The team was coached superbly by Craig Tibballs, who trained the boys throughout the year and did a wonderful job rotating their 17 man strong team. These boys look destined to be a strong force in the years to come and would love to thank all the students and parents who came along and supported.

HOCKEY

2008 has been a successful year on the hockey field. For years, the team was lead admirably by Leanne Gibbons. This year, with a large number of motivated, keen Year 7s, as well as the expertise of Coach Angela Eagling, hockey has continued to improve. The students trained each week and played every Saturday, representing their school with pride. Initially the team found the level quite difficult, as they had a range of players of different ages and skill levels. As they continued training together, they kept improving, reducing big defeats to small defeats, before they finished the year of in sensational form with a win and a draw.

Congratulations to the girls for their commitment and I hope they stick together next year. Thank you to Leanne Gibbons for her commitment over the last four years and a HUGE thanks to Angela Eagling, who worked tirelessly, developing and motivating the girls.

The girls are extremely grateful for the effort Angela gave to hockey and we hope that next year in an even more successful year in hockey.

NETBALL

Another successful netball season has now come to a close. Dominic fielded 9 netball teams this term, all of which were very successful.

Our Year 10 Team was superbly coached by Miss Pearce, and once the team settled they continually improved as the year progressed, winning a number of games at the end of the season.

Dominic had two Year 9 teams, the first was coached by Miss Butterworth, this team went through the season undefeated and beat Mt. Carmel in the final during August. This team has not lost a game since they started together at Dominic. Next year, provided the girls are dedicated, this team (plus a few more); will most likely be placed in the 1st roster, making them play against Year 11/12 teams.

The other Year 9 team worked hard and were extremely competitive throughout the year, and forced a number of excellent teams to perform at their absolute best to defeat them.

There were 3 Year 8 Girl’s teams, with one team making the final, only to be defeated by a strong Mt. Carmel team. Miss Richardson coached this team and they went through the season almost undefeated. This team trained hard and did an excellent job to make the final.

Mrs. Carver coached another Year 8 team, which were also very impressive, they finished third overall and defeated a number of very strong teams throughout the year.

The final Year 8 team was coached by Mrs. O’Halloran, this team played many consistent games throughout the year. They trained each week and were extremely supportive of each other and a number of team members improved their skill over the season.

Finally, we had three Year 7 teams. Miss Butterworth was fantastic again, coaching one of these teams and they improved throughout the season, winning a number of games. Jacinta Tonks (Year 9) with the help of Mrs. Joyce coached one of the other Year 7 teams, this team showed sensational teamwork throughout the year and had an extremely consistent season and were unlucky not to make the final.

Finally, the last Year 7 team were sensational, they went through the season undefeated and beat Mt. Carmel in the grand final. This team were extremely talented and showed excellent team work and school spirit throughout the whole season. They were expertly coached by Samantha Harvey (Year 10), with the help of Mrs. Burrill.

Thank you to all the outstanding coaches, helpers, and umpires who made this season of netball so successful, we look forward to continued improvement in the future and I am sure with hard work and Dominic spirit we will build on these successful results next year.

WATERPOLO

This year Dominic fielded two Girls water polo teams. Unfortunately we were unable to field boy’s teams, but we managed to find places for the students interested with other schools. The Year 9/10 team had an excellent start to the year and were extremely motivated to learn the game, they even had an impressive early season victory. Work commitments and injury depleted the second half of the girls season, which was a disappointing way to finish, but still, many skills were learnt and the girls general fitness improved. Thanks to Steve Heenan who helped with this team.

The Year 7/8 Girls had a fantastic season and look to be forces in the pool in the coming years. Many of the girls had limited water polo experience at the start of the year, but excellent commitment and enthusiasm ensured that the team continually improved throughout the year. If the girls can stick together and train, they will be unstoppable by the time they reach Year 10 as they all have amazing natural ability. Well done particularly to Natasha Donaghy who continually played two games throughout the season. I hope that some of these girls play club water polo this summer and continue to develop their skills.

Thank you to Sandra Donaghy who did a great job coaching the girls and to manager/water polo cap restorer Mary Moles. Hopefully, these wonderful ladies continue their involvement in Dominic College sport in the future.

News: Girls Rugby
Posted by: mtaylor on Tuesday, July 01, 2008 - 10:34 AM
SportInfo

Over the last couple of months, around 50 girls from Dominic College have been learning the various skills associated with Rugby Union. They were extremely lucky that Rhys Watts from Rugby Tasmania was able to come in to the College and assist the girls in learning these skills. Rhys conducted four comprehensive training sessions with our female students, aimed at ensuring they understood the rules and how to tackle and brace themselves safely. Once Rhys had given the girls the basics, Fr. Aleki, Miss Pearce and I took the girls for a few extra sessions to prepare for the Girls Rugby Gala Day.

The Gala Day was held in very ordinary conditions last Thursday, and the girls proved that all the hard work and training had paid off. They were extremely successful, winning almost all their games, and it was sensational to see the way they worked together, and how well they had picked up the game.

It is debatable whether the girls enjoyed tackling each other and getting muddy, but a great day was had by all and the girls are looking forward to being involved in future rugby gala days.

Some highlights of the event were:
- How quickly two Rattenburys can be covered from head to toe in mud
- The evasive skills of Imogen Pryer
- The crash and bang tackling of all the girls, particularly Emma Mason
- Theresa Chisholm tackling a girl, but ending up with the girl sitting on her head

Finally it was fantastic to see the discipline the girls showed throughout the day, focusing on playing the game and representing their school with pride. Thanks to the parents who came along and supported, in particular Trish Claridge and Sandra Chisholm, and to the staff involved, Fr. Aleki, Miss Pearce, Mr. Fitzpatrick and Mr. Dacy.

News: Cross Country 2008

On Tuesday, Dominic College held its Inter-House Cross Country Carnival. The carnival was held under trying conditions, with sections of rain and wind throughout the afternoon. Participation from the students was very high and there were a number of outstanding individual efforts. This year the Cross Country was run on a new course, entirely within the school grounds, and the overall consensus was that the students enjoyed the new track.

As usual, Savio house blitzed the field, while Siena house improved dramatically to move into second position. These results prove how important participation and effort are in determining the outcome of the carnival. Savio and Siena had the highest amount of students running the course under 20 minutes, therefore achieving 4 points for the house. This time is easily achievable by students, providing they jog and the system ensures that students are rewarded for effort.

The results are shown below:

Also shown below are the winners and runners-up for each age group. These students will be presented with medallions in an upcoming assembly and need to be congratulated for their efforts.

News: Lunchtime Sport
Posted by: mtaylor on Thursday, May 29, 2008 - 04:29 PM
SportInfo

During Term 1, a Lunchtime Sport competition was played between all Pastoral Groups. Over the last few weeks, Pastoral Groups have been eliminated and at the start of the final week of term, only 5 Pastoral Groups remained.

These Pastoral Groups were: Guzman 1, Guzman 4, Savio 2, Savio 4 and Bosco 3.

On Monday, 26th of May, Bosco 3 were beaten and consequently eliminated by a very strong Savio 2 outfit and on Tuesday in the Qualifying finals, Savio 4 defeated Savio 2 and Guzman 1 defeated Guzman 4.

On Wednesday, May 28th, the Grand Final was held in the Savio Centre in front of a massive crowd. It was a sensational game, with arguably the strongest teams contesting the Grand Final. Savio 4 played an excellent team game, lead by Winston ‘Magic’ Pene and Lauri ‘No. 1’ Wallner, but were unable to overcome the firepower, height and skill of Guzman 1. Katherine ‘Showtime’ Luffman was the standout player in the Grand Final, hardly missing a shot. She was amply supported by all members of her team, Tom ‘Assist’ Curtain, Shannen ‘Lauren Jackson’ Strong, Jayden ‘Distance’ Hey and Tim ‘Big Show’ Gibbons.

Congratulations to Guzman 1 on an impressive performance and thanks to all the Pastoral Groups for their effort and support over the whole season. We look forward to a new Lunchtime Sport competition featuring a different sport next term.

News: Dominic College Dominate SSATIS Term 1 Sports
Posted by: mtaylor on Thursday, May 29, 2008 - 03:52 PM
SportInfo

This term Dominic entered 12 SSATIS Sporting Competitions, and was extremely successful. It has definitely been the most triumphant start to the sporting year for a very long time. Out of the 12 competitions Dominic College finished Premiers in 8.

The results are as Follows:

Premiers:

Year 8 Boys Tennis:
Dominic df St.Virgils
Conor Meaney, Michael Cleary, Alex Elwell, Sam Palmer, Harrison Bickers & Mr. Nolan

The Year 8 Boys Tennis team had a very successful year. Last year they finished runners-up, but this year managed to go one better. They were very lucky to have Mr. Nolan’s expertise helping them improve their game last year and during this year’s roster. This team has an excellent understanding of each other’s games and worked extremely hard to achieve the result they got. Well Done Boys!!

Year 7 Girls Basketball:
Dominic df St. Mays
Shaynce Kitson, Laura Smith, Abbie Gregson, Olivia Howard, Molly Cubit, Emma Coad, Megan Atkinson, Maddison Tomkinson & Katherine Luffman & Enita Masunda.

Dominic College has a very large number of extremely talented girl basketballers, and each team was capable of playing off in the Grand Final. The girls’ team above showed outstanding skills and teamwork to easily defeat St. Mary’s in the final. Each girl played their part during both the final and the regular season. This team was sensationally coached by Katherine Luffman and Enita Masunda, arguably the best female basketballers in the school. The support from the crowd was excellent during the finals, with the other Dominic teams coming out to show their support.

Year 8 Boys Basketball:
Dominic dr Friends
Conor Meaney, Ben Stearnes, Jacob Wigg, Joshua Young, Alex Cerritelli, Joe Wallner, Kyle Clark, Nathan Cranfield & Miss Smith and Miss Pearce.

Congratulations to the Year 8 Boys Basketball team who drew with Friends (44-44) in a nail biting Grand Final on Thursday 24th April 2008. The whole team worked extremely well throughout the competition and showed a commitment to the principles of sportsmanship. They not only gave a good account of themselves but they represented the College in a very positive way as well. We would like to thank all of the boys for their effort. Well done!

Miss Smith & Miss Pearce

Year 9 Boys Basketball:
Dominic df Friends
Jack Mason, Ryan Tan, Andrew Barron, Joshua Holmes, Brad Harrison, Justin Estrada, Michael Williams & Mr. Davey.

The Year 9 Boys Basketball team went through the season only losing one game. They all practiced every lunch on the school basketball court and this caused them to continually improve throughout the season. In the final against Friends, they worked extremely hard as a team and although they received some rough umpiring calls, they dug in their heels and never gave up. This team was extremely well coached, but the improvement came from the students’ love of basketball and I am sure they will all continue to be excellent players into the future.

Year 10 Boys Basketball:
Dominic df St. Virgils
Tim Gibbons, Winston Pene, Jake Strong, Zac Adlard, Tom Curtain, Julian Yee, Tim Yee, Oliver Morgan, Jake Henderson, Chris Dillion & Mr. Veitch

This year the Grade 10 Boys Basketball team enjoy a very successful season by only losing 2 games. The boys were able to secure the spot in the Grand Final just ahead of the Friends School. In the Grand Final the boys came up against the undefeated St. Virgil's. The boys showed great teamwork and heart and they were able to beat the highly ranked St. Virgil's team by 3 points. The boys would like to thank Mr. Veitch for being the team coach for the season, Mr. Davey for his lovely umpiring (even though they didn't agree with his umpiring at times), to the parents for helping out with scoring at home games and to the supporters who came to support us at the Grand Final. The boys now look forward to taking on the rest of the Southern schools and Tasmanian schools later in the year.

The Grade 7 Soccer team had an excellent season. The girls had never played together before, but they soon combined as a strong team, who worked very well together. They won the Grand Final 1-0, after going through the season undefeated. It was an excellent final with Madeline Chisholm scoring the winning goal. The team was superbly coached by Sandra Chisholm, who worked very hard with the team. This team looks to be extremely strong, both now and in for future years. The girls would love to thank all the people who came along to support them in the Grand Final.

Year 9 Girls Soccer:
Dominic df Friends

Our Year 9 Girls soccer side capped off their extremely successful season with a great result in securing the Year 9 SATIS premiership.

The girls have been a strong combination since Year 7 and with a few personnel changes this year continued to dominate their competitors . The team remained undefeated for the season and finished at the top of the ladder after the home and away matches. There is a very good mix of experienced and new players in this side and they have a unique but effective way of maintaining a strong team spirit and cohesiveness. This team always has fun together but are one of the most competitive sides around.

The girls played against the Friends side at our home ground in the Grand Final. In a highly competitive and tight match the determination and skill levels of the Dominic players were too strong in the end for the Friends team.
