Mike began teaching drama in secondary schools in the early 1990s after a career in the theatre spanning fifteen years. He has worked as an actor in stage, television and film, directed numerous productions for professional theatre companies and was resident director at Sydney's Ensemble Theatre. He has been a Senior Marker for HSC Drama and the Regional Co-ordinator of the Shakespeare Festival. He is the author of several drama textbooks for secondary students published by Cambridge University Press.
