2026 ‘Symphony of Stories’ Book Week Parade and Assembly
Our 2026 Book Week celebration was a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together and celebrate the stories, characters and voices that make books so special.
This year’s theme, ‘Symphony of Stories’, encouraged us to imagine books as an orchestra, where different stories, voices and characters come together like individual instruments to create a harmonious whole. Just as every instrument contributes its own unique sound, every book brings its own ideas, perspectives and experiences, creating a rich and diverse world of imagination and discovery.
Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book Week has been an important part of Australian school and library life since 1945, bringing children together each year to celebrate books by Australian authors and illustrators. At Dominic College, we mark Book Week with a range of events and activities. Most importantly, throughout Term 3, our Library classes read and explore all the shortlisted titles for the CBCA Book of the Year awards. This gives students the opportunity to discover new stories, authors and illustrators and to share in the excitement of celebrating Australian children’s literature.
Our K-6 parade was the highlight of the CBCA Book Week celebration, with students showcasing imaginative, spectacular and adventurous costumes inspired by the books they love. It was wonderful to see so many different characters and stories come together, creating our very own Symphony of Stories as a school community.
Reading reminds us that every story has something unique to contribute. Each time we open a book, we encounter new voices, explore different worlds and see life from new perspectives. Together, these stories become part of something much bigger—a rich and wonderful symphony of ideas, imagination and possibility.
