National Reconciliation Week
Last week, a small selection of students and staff from our college attended the National Reconciliation Week Breakfast in nipaluna/Hobart, joining the wider community to reflect on the state of reconciliation in lutruwita/Tasmania.
Reconciliation Tasmania promoted the 2026 theme, Truth. Reckoning. Change. Reconciliation in Tasmania: A New Understanding and Approach, highlighting the need for a renewed and honest path forward.
The event opened with a Welcome to Country by Trish Hodge, grounding the gathering in respect and connection. A standout moment was Denni’s powerful performances of My Nita and Lutruwita, along with her moving new single Hurt People. Attendees also heard compelling truth-telling from Aboriginal leaders, who spoke about the ongoing impacts of colonisation and the importance of listening, learning, and action.
The experience was both meaningful and inspiring, strengthening understanding and shared responsibility.
