NAIDOC Week
Celebrating NAIDOC Week Across Our College
Our College proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week through a range of events that honoured the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The week began with First Nations students, families and staff joining the wider community for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sunday Mass at St John’s Catholic Church. Students also represented the College at the NAIDOC Week Flag Raising Ceremony at piyura kitina / Risdon Cove, celebrating culture, connection and pride.
Back at school, the College community gathered for a special NAIDOC Prayer Service, which included the creation of a ‘Sea of Hands’ installation symbolising respect, recognition and reconciliation.
A highlight was the presentation of a football guernsey to Lana Cowley, winner of the DOSA Indigenous Round Guernsey Design Competition. Students from Kinder to Year 10 engaged in learning linked to this year’s NAIDOC theme, '50 Years of Deadly'. Kinder to Year 6 classes participated in a Deadly Door Competition incorporating palawa kani. Throughout the week, students and staff celebrated culture, language, learning and community.
