Japanese Festival in Hobart

Akemashite omedetou gozaimasu! Wishing you and your families a happy and healthy year for 2017, the Year of the Rooster.

Susie Allan (Aran sensei) and I are very excited about the year ahead and sharing our passion and knowledge about Japan and Japanese with students from Kindergarten through to Year 10.

Yaizu and Hobart – Sister Cities

Yaizu City is located between Tokyo and Nagoya in Japan. Hobart and Yaizu City have been sister cities since February 17, 1977. As part of the 40-year sister city anniversary, a Japanese Mini Summer Festival will be held this weekend.

Japanese Mini Summer Festival

If you have some time to spare on Saturday February 4, please consider visiting the Japanese Mini Summer Festival.

The Hobart community and a delegation from Yaizu, Japan will present calligraphy, children’s games, Bonsai, Martial Arts demonstration in samurai armour, Origami, Kimono and Yukata displays, Japanese Okonomiyaki pancakes and Mochitsuki (sticky rice making demonstrations and tastings), Ikebana, Taiko Drum performances, Japanese dance and more….

When: Saturday 4 February 2017, 9am to 3pm

We hope to see many Dominic students there and taking advantage of this wonderful opportunity to experience a diverse range of Japanese cultural activities.
