Library Lovers Day

On Valentine's Day this year, Dominic College celebrated it’s first Library Lovers Day!

Library Lovers Day is a fun way for students and teachers to engage with their library and explore the reasons why libraries play an important role within their communities as well as encouraging everyone to celebrate their love of libraries, reading and literature.

The day was celebrated with the K-6 classes each receiving a wrapped picture book with a ‘love letter’ from the Library. There was much excitement in classes as they unwrapped their presents and saw which book had been chosen for them. Classes were encouraged to read the book and discuss their love of libraries, reading and books with students, then having an opportunity to write a love letter back to the Library. We were delighted with the thoughtful and creative letters we have received from students.

In the 7-10 Library we showcased a ‘Blind Date with a Book' display which prompted much intrigue by both students and staff. It was great to see students borrowing books that they might not usually be tempted to read.

The theme for Library Lovers Day was ‘uncover something new’ and we hope to see students and their families continuing to ‘uncover something new’ from the College Library during 2020.
