200th anniversary badges

Badges are great symbols of identity and values. In 2013, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the foundation of Dominic College by the Dominican Sisters of Eastern Australia and the Salesians of Don Bosco, we designed and developed a special badge to mark this occasion. Our students continue to wear this memento of our amalgamation as the first Catholic coeducational school in southern Tasmania.

200th anniversary Commemorative Badge
On Wednesday at the Prep-10 College assembly, students were gifted with a badge to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Don Bosco. Like our 40th anniversary badge, we hope students will treasure this memento and wear it with pride.

In the presence of our students and staff and the Salesian community, our badges were blessed by Fr Vaclav Klement SDB who has been visiting the Salesian community, the College and the St John’s Parish this week. Fr Klement oversees Salesians and their mission works in the East Asia-Oceania region as a member of the General Council of the Salesians in Rome and his blessing of these badges makes them even more special.

The International Salesian Family
We have used the international logo of the Salesian family in the badge as we want our community to know and celebrate that we are part of a worldwide movement in the education of children and young people.

The logo features a stylised image of three people: the first of these in the middle represents Don Bosco and the other two beside him symbolize his students and our students. They are embraced by Don Bosco yesterday and today. It symbolizes Don Bosco and the Salesians walking with the young through the world.

Simultaneously, the three figures with can also be viewed as a house with a sloping roof and with pillars holding it up -the bodies of the three people. Central to all Salesian schools is that we be a home that welcomes and provides a loving environment for our students as they learn, play and develop in their faith.
