Book Week news

During Book Week, there has been a Scholastic Book Fair in the K-6 section of the library. Many families visited the fair and bought books.

We can now use a percentage of sales to buy more books for the library. The Picture Book of the Year was also on display for parents and children to read. Mr Gray, the new library assistant enjoyed meeting the families of Dominic in his third week working at the school.

7-10 Book Week

In the 7-10 Library section, the English classes discovered some tips on searching for books using the Dominic Library Catalogue. Did you know that students can log into the library catalogue and see their current and previous loans? They can also write reviews and give books a ‘thumbs up’!

You can find the library catalogue here: http://library.dominic.tas.edu.au/#!dashboard

7-10 students also completed a Scavenger Hunt where they had to find particular books around the library. The Older Reader Book of the Year was also on display for the students to peruse.

K-6 Book Week

In K-6, classes chose a book from the Notables Booklist for 2018. Students participated in activities based on these books and displayed these in their classroom windows.

Students also focused on the theme ‘Find your Treasure’ and discussed their favourite books.

3B used a green screen to make images of the students dressed in costume in front of an authentic background.

Book Week Assembly

During the Assembly, the staff performed a play based on the Best Picture Book for 2017, Go Home Cheeky Animals, by Johanna Bell & Illustrated by Dion Beasley.

The children thought it was hilarious to see their teachers acting like cheeky animals.

Mrs Barbara Moulton also read a fabulous book called ‘Stick Man’ by Julia Donaldson.

Classes also presented their Book Week work for students, staff and families to admire.
