DOSA grand final anguish

Both grand finals of the Old Scholars Football Association ended in anguish, as DOSA reserves and seniors fell well short in their double premierships campaign.

Despite an undefeated season, the DOSA reserves were beaten by University. DOSA was strong in the first half but in the third and final quarters University's power marking from their talls overwhelmed the smaller DOSA spread and it was clear University had saved their best game till the last.

The seniors also had high hopes, tempered by the struggle throughout the regular season as DOSA had lost to Richmond and both sides were evenly matched for this decider.

DOSA's opening quarter was impressive as speed and skill were on display for six goals to take a lead. Despite dominating much of the second quarter, DOSA could not find a path to goal consistently.

In the second half, Richmond began to dominate productively. DOSA tried everything but the spirited teamwork, which had served them so well through great season, failed to break an organised Richmond, who always had numbers behind and around the ball, and whose accuracy in kicking and scoring was efficient.

Players were exhausted and heart broken. Football is hard sometimes.
