First Lego League off to a fast start

Year 5 & 6 students who have shown an interest in being part of a Robotics Club to compete in a Lego Robotics competition met in the library last Friday 16 October, to begin work on their project.

Dominic College received a grant of $1000 from First Australia, in partnership with Google, Lego and Macquarie University, to cover registration and equipment needed to participate in the First Lego League (FLL) competition.

Six schools in Tasmania will receive this grant which was provided to support an opportunity to get the FLL competition off the ground in Tasmania.

With less than five weeks until competition students will be working very hard to prepare. Students meet on Friday afternoons after school and on weekends as well as lunch times where possible. They will complete robot challenges and prepare a project based on the theme of ‘Trash Trek’.

We are looking for support with the development of our Project as part of the FLL competition. If anyone has any contacts in the area of waste management and recycling then please email the information to skinne@dominic.tas.edu.au

Robotics has great applications for Digital Technology, Science and Maths, and students are very engaged with this project and we will report on the FLL regularly.
