Harmony Week

Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world, and Harmony Week is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism and the successful integration of migrants into our community.

Harmony Week celebrates Australian multiculturalism, by promoting inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background.

To celebrate the inclusive nature of Dominic and to support the Harmony Day theme, Everyone Belongs, the library ran activities each day that promoted inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

Students made bookmarks for friends, played board games together and also searched facts about Australian multiculturalism from our wonderful library resources.

The library also asked the photography classes to capture images that represent the concepts of diversity, inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging within the school. These images can be seen on display in the 7-10 Library, or on our website gallery: Harmony gallery.

Year 1 Library Display

Each month one year level creates a display for the K-6 Library. In March, Year 1 have displayed what they are learning in Religion. They have been investigating prayers of thanks and sorrow and have written prayers thanking God for their families and friends, as well as nature and animals.

Year 1 have also been exploring formal prayers, such as the Our Father, Hail Mary and the Dominic College Prayer.

They know that prayer is a conversation with God. Year 1 have also been practising the process of Christian Meditation where we are alone with our thoughts, and are able to set up a respectful and reverent prayer space.
