Holy Week 2018

This week across the College we have spent significant time in prayer and reflection in our Chapel and in our classrooms. I also commend all students for the manner in which they have energetically and selflessly committed to raising funds for Caritas’ Project Compassion. It has been a great effort by all students.

As we bring the Lenten Season to conclusion this week, we have recalled and recounted the events leading to the death of Jesus and invited students to celebrate the hope of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead this coming Sunday.

The rituals of Easter remind us that God does not abandon us but comforts us during our dark times, and that through God’s love, darkness in our lives shall pass and all life will be renewed. Easter blessings on all in our community – may each of you find deep hope and joy in the Easter message that He is Risen!

K-6 Palm Sunday Liturgy

On Monday our K-2 students lead our K-6 in our Palm Sunday Liturgy. Students began following the journey of Jesus starting with His triumphant arrival in Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. The students waved their palms and sang Hosanna!

You can see more photos on our web gallery: Palm Sunday liturgy.

K-6 Holy Week Liturgy

On Tuesday students were led by Year 3 and 4 through the events of Holy Thursday. The students reenacted the Washing of the Feet, Last Supper and the arrest of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Stations of the Cross

On Thursday, Year 5 and Year 6 students led the K-6 through Jesus’ final journey by a reenactment of the Stations of the Cross on Holy Thursday. You can enjoy more photos on our web gallery: Stations of the Cross.

7-10 Holy Week Liturgy

Year 7-10 students participated in a Liturgy that followed Jesus’ journey from Palm Sunday through until the Crucifixion on Good Friday.

Thank you to Year 10 pianist Harrison who set the mood in our chapel as we both began our Year 7-10 Easter liturgy and ended our liturgy with the veneration of the cross. Our students were wonderful in their focus, sense of solemn occasion and sincere prayers of thanksgiving for God's abiding love and hope that Christ gave to all.

I would like to thank all the teachers and students from K-6 for their planning and preparation for this most important week in the Church’s year. I would also like to thank Fr Lawrie and Fr Nick for presiding at the liturgies this week. Also thank you to the parents, grandparents and friends who attended our liturgies.

The Church has set aside certain times throughout the year to help us remember particular events in the life of Jesus and to remind us of who we are and what we are called to do. Holy Week and Easter help us to understand more fully the wonderful mystery that is Christ.
