Important College assembly, with very special guests

Our Prep-Year 10 assembly today was full of interest and entertainment.

There was poetry, history and geography, as well as singing, badge-blessing, gift-giving and a few laughs, too.

Two very special guests were highlighted. Fr Denis Allen, old scholar of Boys' Town (1947-1950), one of our tangible links with the pioneer Salesians who established our school, celebrated his 50th anniversary of becoming a priest this year. Fr Denis spoke of the wonder and joy of his early years here, and his life of service in the Church in Tasmania.

Fr Vaclav Klement SDB is the Salesian "Regional Superior" the head of the East Asia-Oceania Province which includes Australia. Fr Vaclav has been visiting Glenorchy this week, and spoke of how pleased he was with how the school had improved and progressed since he was last here 12 years ago. Fr Vaclav was surprised and delighted to be presented with a Dominic College spray jacket!

Fr Vaclav blessed our new badges, produced in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of St John Bosco. Speeches, readings, presentations and singing - all of which were much appreciated by an attentive school community - many of whom remained in their Book Week Parade costumes throughout!
