A Message from the Principal - Dominic College

15 October, 2021

Dear Families,

RE: Three Day Lockdown in Southern Tasmania and Dominic College Arrangements

This afternoon, we have been informed by the Tasmanian Premier, Mr Peter Gutwein that Southern Tasmania is going into a three-day lock-down due to potential COVID-19 community exposure in Hobart.

On this coming Monday 18 October, students are being asked by the Premier to remain at home. However, those students who are either the children of a permitted worker or unable to be supervised or supported at home can come to school for supervision.

We will be staffing the school by our fully vaccinated staff who will be supervising students on-site

PLAN FOR STUDENTS ON SITE MONDAY 18 OCTOBER

  • Students who need to attend school can arrive between 8.30 am and 9.00 am.
  • School will finish at 3.10 pm for K-6 students and 3.20 pm for Year 7 – 10 students.
  • Students coming to school can wear their PE uniform on Monday.
  • Students in Year 6-10 coming on site will be required to wear a face mask, unless eating or drinking. Students are encouraged to wear their own face masks but disposable masks will be available at school for those students who do not have one on Monday.
  • K-2 students should be dropped at the Kindergarten classrooms. Parents and carers are asked not to enter classrooms. Staff will be present to direct families.
  • Year 3-5 students will be supervised in the MPC (Year 5A Classroom). Parents and carers are asked not to enter classrooms.
  • Year 6-10 students will be supervised in the Year 6 classrooms. Parents and carers are asked not to enter classrooms.
  • Any parent/carer coming on site should wear a face mask, socially distance and sign in using the ap as required.
  • The canteen will not be open. Students must bring their own recess and lunch.
  • Public transport for school students will operate as normal.

PLAN FOR STUDENTS AT HOME:MONDAY 18 OCTOBER

Students who are able to stay at home are encouraged to have a productive day. They can:

  • Continue their reading.
  • Prepare for assignments and tests.
  • Complete art and craft work.
  • Play board games and spend time on their hobbies.
  • Do some cooking.
  • Exercise.

CANCELLATION OF SCHOOL EVENTS NEXT WEEK

Our participation in the following events is cancelled next week:

  • Hobart Eisteddfod
  • Year 3 and 4 Sports Day
  • Catholic Youth Mass
  • UTAS Conservatorium Big Band Excursion
  • Hobart Show Day Events – TBC

BEYOND MONDAY 18 OCTOBER

Families will be regularly updated by emailed ‘Principal Communiques’ of arrangements if there is any extension of the lockdown. We will always follow the advice of the state’s Public Health Authority. Families will be well informed of our contingency plans.

Our planned holiday days on Thursday 21 October and Friday 22 October will proceed as scheduled next week. There will be no staff or students on site during these days. The DELC Holiday program is available for families to access.

This is an anxious time for all in the south of our state and I know that our community will carefully follow Public Health advice. We join in prayer that all of us and our neighbours will remain well and safe.

Yours sincerely,

Beth Gilligan

College Principal
