Salesians join the National Redress Scheme

Fr Will Matthews SDB, Provincial of the Salesians of Don Bosco, has announced that the Salesian Society [Vic] Inc, also known as Salesians of Don Bosco, was declared as a participating non-government institution in the National Redress Scheme by the Minister for Families and Social Services on 16 May 2019.

The National Redress Scheme was created in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in Australia.

The National Redress Scheme can provide:

  1. access to counselling;
  2. a payment; and
  3. a direct personal response from the institution (e.g. an apology) for people who want it.

This means people who were abused in the care of the Salesians can apply to the Scheme for redress. People are now encouraged to apply through the National Redress Website.

Free and confidential Redress Support Services are available throughout the process. They can help explain the Scheme and who can apply. Find out all you need to know about applying for the National Redress Scheme here:
