The passing of Tempest, our Anglo-Nubian goat

The cycle of life is a mystery and brings us both joy and sorrow. We have been so blessed to have a family of magnificent animals who respond so well to our students and families and often to crowds of members of the public.

The Dominic College community will be very sad to hear that our beautiful Anglo-Nubian goat, Tempest, died suddenly this summer. She and our other animals were enjoying the grazing period of school vacation when she was bitten by a Tiger snake on the Glenlusk property of our Director of Science K-10 Ms Jane Myers.

Tempest’s death has been deeply felt by the Myers family and all those students, families and staff who cared for her and enjoyed her company during her time in our community.

Many of us remember the amazing day on 7 June last year when Tempest gave birth to the most gorgeous little fellow who was dubbed Hugo because he looked like a ‘Hugo’.

Watching Tempest’s perseverance and patient courage as she circled her pen, waiting for nature to take its course, was a blessed moment for all of us who were present. Once delivered of the baby, mother and son have been inseparable since.

Tempest will be remembered for her endearing nature, her beautiful eyes and ears and flavorsome milk and of course the way she never tired of people touching and stroking her.

Hugo has been lost without Tempest and understandably pining. To his delight however, we now have two new additions to the Dominic animal family. Trivia and Kaliope, two 18 month old does arrived last Sunday and Hugo is happy and content now living with these extended family members of his own breed.

It has been a tough time losing our beloved Tempest. Tempest was buried on the Glenlusk property – a placed she loved and where she spent her last summer days.

May she rest in peace.
