Welcome Mr Akihiro Shimomura

This week we welcomed back Mr Mike O’Brien, our Director of Creative Arts K-10 from his exchange time at Shizuoka Salesio School, Japan. At the same time, we have warmly welcomed Mr Akihiro Shimomura from Shizuoka Salesio onto our teaching staff for this term.

Our students are very excited about having Shimomura sensei with us and we look forward to a time of friendship, heightened understandings of Japanese language and culture.

This is a great beginning to our sister school relationship.

Among the diverse activities Mr Shimomura was involved with this week were shodou (Japanese calligraphy) using sumi (charcoal) ink as well as joining Year 8, 9 and 10 Japanese elective students as they began after school taiko tuition this Tuesday in preparation for their performance at the Asian Festival Assembly on October 30. たのしかった!(tanoshikatta! – It was fun!)

Mr Shimomura also joined our taiko drumming after school. His musical talent is broad: he joined our Concert Band who were practising for their Queensland trip.

All in his first week! This term will flash by!
