Advanced Food Studies afternoon tea

On Monday afternoon the Advanced Food Studies students presented their final assessment task at an afternoon tea for their parents, grandparents and teachers.

The students, under the direction of their teacher, Miss Jane Gysen, prepared a range of delectable hot and cold platters served with tea, coffee or juice.

Miss Gysen said that students researched various recipes to cater for different needs, calculated the cost of their chosen dish and trialed their recipe so they could make any flavour or quantity changes before the actual event. Each student was required to plan and prepare approximately 20 serves of a sweet or savoury dish of their choice. Some of the options available were Strawberry custard tarts, Zucchini slice, Fruit salad cups and Rice paper rolls. The organisation and proficiency demonstrated by the students was excellent with all dishes presented in a timely manner. Amber Burns put in an exceptional effort making 50 mini-quiches and Rowan Sullivan’s Cheesecake-filled strawberries were a resounding success.

We congratulate the students, Miss Gysen and Mrs Baker on the excellent presentation and the highly professional manner in which the students attended to their guests.
