TCEC Awards to Dominic personalities
During Catholic Education Week, the Tasmanian Catholic Education Commission (TCEC) recognises people who have given significant and dedicated service to Catholic Education in Tasmania.
We would like to congratulate the Chair of our College Council and former Dominic Principal, Fr Bernie Graham SDB who last night received the highest and most prestigious TCEC award for Exemplary Contribution to Catholic Education.
We are also delighted that our College Librarian Mrs Christine Donnelly received the highly valued TCEC award for Outstanding Service as an Employee within Catholic Education.

Year 1 art: God's Eye's
Year 1 students and teachers have been busily preparing for the upcoming Dominic College Creative Arts Festival.
This year we have themed our collaborative piece of artwork ‘Fashioned in God’s Eyes’. Throughout Term 3 students have been learning to weave small craft pieces called ‘God’s Eyes’. The God’s Eye is symbolic of the power of seeing and understanding that which is unknown and unknowable, The Mystery.

Science Week at Dominic
This year as part of Science Week we decided our senior students would create hands-on wow-but-fun Science activities that would engage students from Kindergarten to Year 6.
Our Year 9/10 students from the two Physical Science classes researched, adapted and created 10-minute activities that would have the K-6 students involved in science using creativity and critical thinking skills.

Ella's Olympic grandfather
Year 6 student, Ella Freeman, has enjoyed watching the Olympics, and was proud to share the news that her grandfather, Gerald Freeman, was a competitor at the Rome Olympics in 1960.
Gerald Freeman was a boxing star as a young man who went on to win six Tasmanian Open and four Australian titles, and represented Australia at Olympic and Commonwealth Games.

Academic Awards presented at assembly
Awards and achievements were on our cultural agenda this week with the Olympics looming large. At our 7-10 assembly we recognised and celebrated the academic achievements of our outstanding students.
Students who received three or more awards were acknowledged with certificates to mark their academic success. These students have shown academic excellence through their dedication and commitment to their learning in order to achieve the highest results in their subjects.

Participation is the key
Each year the 7-10 Houses battle to win the Aggregate Shield. This shield accumulates the points from four key areas – Sport, Academia, Mission and Creative Arts. Students can earn points for talent, particularly in terms of Academic Awards and Achievement and results within Sporting Carnivals and Creative Arts Events.

Dominic students and The Kettering Incident
Dominic College has a strong connection to The Kettering Incident, the popular and critically acclaimed eight-part TV drama, now reaching its conclusion on Foxtel’s Showcase channel.
Haylee Fry with sister Libby, and Liam Harris are all involved in the dancing in the Kettering Community Hall. But the show really features Year 7 Creative Arts Scholarship student, Thomas Readman.
Thomas plays a crucial role as ‘Kade,’ a young man who lives with his mother in the forest, and is central to the exposition of the weird happenings in the show. We spoke to Thomas and asked some questions:

Old scholars celebrate DOSA milestone
DOSA Football had two close and well-fought wins over OHA in the Old Scholars Football on Saturday 13 August.
In the seniors game Patrick Carroll, Class of 1999, and current parent celebrated his 150th game for DOSA, and Scott Beattie, Class of 2001, celebrated his 200th game.

Drama performance ticket bookings open for Creative Arts Festival
The Dominic College Creative Arts Festival runs from 7-10 September, and is full of inspirational student art, music, drama, photography, media, dance and displays.
Everything is free to enter and view, but the drama performances of our moving adaption of T. A.G. Hungerford's "Stories from Suburban Road" must be booked through the ticketing website
