Dance takes off
The Southern Tasmanian Dance Eisteddfod is over for another year.
In the last newsletter of term 2, Jess Duggan, Year 10 Bosco House Creative Arts Captain, said students were excited to have the opportunity to perform and showcase their hard work at the Derwent Entertainment Centre before a public audience.
“Our choreographer is the extremely talented Ms Jenina Evans, of Jenina’s Dance World, who teaches dance here at Dominic. She is the best teacher ever.”

Multicultural futsal tournament
The Youth Settlement Team of the Migrant Resource Centre Southern Tas (MRC) organises activities for new Tasmanians, who come from a variety of countries, refugee backgrounds, religions and cultures.
On 8-9 July 2016, a Multicultural Youth Health and Fitness Event was organised in collaboration with the Phoenix Centre and Dominic College in our Savio Centre. The event aimed to improve social connections and wellbeing through sport. There was a delicious BBQ, and information stalls from various organisations.

NAIDOC assembly 1 July
Today we gathered as a school community, at the footsteps of kunayi, to commemorate the First Peoples of our nation with our annual NAIDOC Week assembly.
Students have also been learning and discovering more about our First People’s culture, history and achievements in class.

Mud! The wonder of mud!
Wednesday 29 June was our celebration of International Mud Day.
You may well ask why celebrate such a day? The philosophy behind the day is that the development of a child has always been correlated with the natural world. Children all over the world celebrate in one form or another. At Dominic College our Kindergarten students certainly enjoyed playing in the mud.

Year 6 say it loud and say it well
On Tuesday 28 June all Year 6 students performed their self-devised drama as part of Say It Loud 2016.
During Term 2 Year 6 worked on two separate documentary dramas, based on the stimulatory ideas of the mountain and the river. Over 16 30-minute lessons students wrote and produced these works.

Creative Arts go beserk!
Just doing it!
Rather than winding down towards the end of a typically busy term, our Music and Drama students are proving the adage by using every available second to push themselves in an array of Creative Arts events happening over the final two weeks.

Ms Venettacci, have a nice Immersion!
This weekend our Prep teacher, Miss Christina Venettacci, will be travelling to Samoa to be with our Salesian family there.
Christina will be part of a Salesian immersion and formation/animation experience called the Cagliero Program, that our Province runs.
This is a wonderful professional learning and service opportunity the College offers to one of its teachers.

Booking for goal-setting day
By now you will have received our letter detailing the Year 3-10 Goal Setting Day we are having on Monday 18 July 2016.
If you have not received this letter, please contact the Business Office immediately. K-2 teachers will work with Year 3-10 students, so K-2 students will not commence school in Term 3 until Tuesday 19 July 2016.

Year 9 Students’ Super Sushi Skills: Savour the sushi
Year 9 Japanese elective students welcomed a guest chef to their class to teach them to make authentic sushi.
Guest chef, Toshi-san, entertained us with his demonstration and accompanying music before giving everyone a chance to roll their own maki-zushi.

K-10 assembly 22 June
On Wednesday this week, we held our Kindergarten–Year 10 Assembly for the term. The assembly saw us change our configuration of seating and we were all pleased to see our patron saint banners, gifts of the Class of 2015, hanging for the first time.
Highlights of the assembly included our College Captains’ speeches on grit and goal achievement. Meg Parkinson and Jacob Davidson spoke eloquently about the importance of goal setting and learning from failure and perseverance.
