UTAS partnership promotes programming skills

David Chung is a Researcher with the School of Engineering and ICT at the University of Tasmania and has been working with Year 8 Digital Technologies classes on embedded programs..​ UTAS offers a program called the Embedded Systems Learning Program for Digital Technologies, as part of their outreach programs to schools. The program provides a great opportunity for students as they learn about real-world embedded system environments by installing, designing and managing several modules of the Ardunio software.

Senior drama students present 'Aftershocks'

​Senior Drama students are working on a production of AFTERSHOCKS, a verbatim theatre piece about the Newcastle earthquake which occurred on 28 December, 1989. The play focuses upon the people who were at the Newcastle Workers Club when it was hit. It is a complex and demanding undertaking. Performances will be on Tuesday June 14 and Wednesday June 15 at 7pm in The Oratory Space. ​Tickets are free, but must be reserved online.

Commitment shown in 7-10 Cross Country Carnival

Dominic College 7-10 House cross Country Carnival on Friday 27 May was a great day of endeavour and fun. There were eight races (boys and girls, u/13, u/14, u/15 & open) in three course lengths, each of covered many aspects of our beautiful grounds. All races commenced on the oval,where students cheered their peers, thence up through the College and on to the back bush track, through Tolosa and by the reservoir and winding through our multiple ovals and varied grounds.

Commemorate and donate with Art by Esther Shohet

Many of you will have noticed the strikingly beautiful painting in Grantleigh's entry, of Esther Shohet's view of the world of Dominic College. Esther, a College parent, and celebrated international artist, agreed to create this piece especially for the College. Esther generously offered to also produce a range of branded household goods for sale, whose proceeds will go to the Br Peter Dezani Scholarship Fund.

National Simultaneous Storytime

​National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is an annual campaign that encourages more young Australians to read and enjoy books. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, child care centres and many other places around the country. On Wednesday 25 May our K-6 students participated in the NSS and in activities based on this year's book I Got This Hat.

Water Polo shoot out

Year 10 work experience

​During the week 16-20 May, Year 10 students participated in work experience. Work experience is about getting out into the workplace and gaining a better understanding about the many different job opportunities Hobart has on offer for everyone. In the weeks leading up to work experience all Year 10s had to organise with an employer to accept us so that we could attend their workplace for the week.

Rector's message

I love the great feasts of the Ascension, Pentecost and Trinity our Church celebrates at the end of Easter. They are all rich in meaning and so relevant to our Christian life. The Ascension celebrates Jesus return to his Father and the commissioning of the disciples to continue his work on Earth. We find in the Acts of the Apostles these words: Why are you men from Galilee standing there looking up into the sky? ​

Taswater talks to Year 2 students

Educator, Ms Kate Beard, came in to talk to our Year 2 students on Monday 16 May, as part of Taswater's corporate community education goals. Kate explained Taswater was responsible for managing the collection, treatment and distribution of water used in our homes. Students were able to recall many important ways we use water, especially for such vital things as drinking, cooking, washing and showering. Kate talked of the "ations' of the water cycle, evaporation from our oceans, transpiration from plants, condensation of water vapour in clouds to fall as precipiation.and collect in our rivers and dams.

OzBosco 2016

​Six years in a row and OzBosco continues to amaze me. Every year over 200 young people gather together to celebrate the life of Saint John Bosco and the legacy he left for us. In an atmosphere alive with music, dancing, games, passion, love and joy it is easy to see Don Bosco living in each and every one of us at OzBosco.
