NAIDOC Week assembly

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity to celebrate the rich history, beliefs and achievements of the oldest continuous culture on Earth, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

Naming spaces and places at school

Dominic College, like many schools, has the opportunity to name its buildings, facilities and spaces to commemorate important links, events and individuals in the life of the College, its history and traditions.

Sacrament of Confirmation

Last Sunday, Archbishop Julian Porteous presided over the sacramental ceremony of Confirmation for a group of Dominic College students at St John’s parish. As our students received the sacrament, they opened themselves to receive God’s blessings and make a commitment to be faithful to God.

7-10 Mental Health Week initiative

Dominic College is proud to announce that we will be having a Year 7-10 Mental Health Week from Monday 4 to Thursday 7 June. We will focus on quite a few topics around Mental Health

Mother's Day blessings

As Mother’s Day approaches, I extend my appreciation to all the wonderful mothers, grandmothers and foster carers in the Dominic College community. I know the work, and sacrifices that many of you undertake. I also appreciate the energy and care you devote to our students’ ongoing education at home.

7-10 assembly 9 May

At this week’s 7-10 Assembly, we celebrated the wonderful contributions students have made in all facets of College life. Mrs McMahon talked about the amazing efforts in raising money for those less fortunate through fundraising for Project Compassion. We also celebrated the terrific efforts of students on the sporting field and in the creative and performing arts.

Feast Day for our Salesian Saints

This week we held the first of our College Feast Days for 2018. It was a magnificent community day for our students and staff - commencing in class groups - having fun, being with friends, then praying together at mass. Sharing a meal and then playing games with each other out on the oval were further highlights. Our patron and founder, St John Bosco did this with his own students over 150 years ago on special feast days of the Church. The boys at the Oratory would have mass together, go on a walk in the countryside, have a picnic and play games together. Like our students, the boys of the Oratory loved it.

ANZAC Day commemorations

I want to thank all families who supported the 140 students who represented Dominic College on ANZAC Day during the term break. It means a lot to us that so many students and staff took the time to break their vacation, dress in their formal uniform and gather with other students and staff to honour those who have both served and sacrificed for our nation.

Holy Week 2018

This week across the College we have spent significant time in prayer and reflection in our Chapel and in our classrooms. I also commend all students for the manner in which they have energetically and selflessly committed to raising funds for Caritas’ Project Compassion. It has been a great effort by all students.

Catholic Education Week at Dominic College

This week we have marked Catholic Education Week by continuing to work with our students, families and parish to help children and young people develop and learn to integrate their gifts of body, mind and spirit in a caring community, based on Gospel values.
